Film shootings in Jaipur’s splendid Amber fort have almost always generated appreciation from people of the city.

But this time around, the Salman Khan-starrer costume drama, Veer, which is also scheduled to be shot in Amber finds itself in the grip of controversy. The shooting of the film requires a huge set to be installed inside the fort, work for which has already begun.

But a spanner to the progress of this work has come in the form of the comments of the former vice-president of India, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who on a recent visit to the fort pointed out that installation of sets inside the historical monument might damage it forever.

When JT got in touch with the director of the film Anil Sharma, he shot down the rumours of a dispute and said that the shooting would take place at Amber as scheduled. “I am in Jaipur right now, and there is no problem, the concerned authorities are extremely happy with us. Every thing is going smooth and we have no plans to stall the shooting. I don’t know where the news of this controversy has come from. I think there is miscommunication of some sort. We are professional people and know the value of a heritage property. The sets that are being put up are temporary. All the structures are made up of wood and fiber, which can be easily dismantled after the shooting. We are very particular about the safety and security of the heritage destinations,” says Anil. The film will be shot extensively in Rajasthan and Salman is expected to be in the city on February 10 for the first phase of shooting. “We are expecting to shoot peacefully, and I don’t think there will be any problem. In fact, through the film we plan to showcase the state’s culture and it’s beauty extensively, and I am sure that will help the state attract more tourists in the future,” signs off Sharma.
